This is textbook Christian fantasy, combining modern writing with age-old truths in a winning blend. The second book of Nathan Lumbatis’ exciting series, Daniel and the Triune Quest puts a lot of oomph into this popular genre. Still nursing memories of their earlier experiences in Peru, during which they first acquired their powers, not-so-typical boys Daniel and Ben are thrown into yet another adventure when they are summoned on a mission to the exotic, deadly land of India to face a terrible new enemy—the demon Shakti. They must overcome terrible obstacles, including bolts of pestilence, armies of demons, the Enemy in the form of Shiva the god of destruction, and—worst of all—self-doubt and jealousy--before they can learn God’s message of self-sacrifice and love. Only then can they unlock more powers and advance in their training.

Daniel and the Triune Quest is a blast—a breathtaking thrill ride! Nathan Lumbatis can really punch in the tantalizing prose, and the story is deliciously well-written. I fell head-over-heels for the witty, sarcastic dialogue. Daniel and Ben’s adventures are action-adventure spelled-out, along with a hefty dose of drama, comedy, and memorable characters. The action-packed narrative undoubtedly has the power to lure kids away from video games, and the spiritual messages are core, buoyed by dazzling anime-like visuals presented through sharp descriptions, and clear-cut learning arcs for the two boys. Parents looking for a healthy story that their kids won’t sniff out as too preachy or stiff should jump for this one and bookmark Nathan Lumbatis for future reference.
