Oscar Segurado lays out in Mindful Framing a system for calming emotions and fundamentally reducing stress by devoting 15 minutes per day. A short story included in the book parallels how to become immune to stress by exploring the physical human immune system. A character representing the vital T-cell solves a mystery involving characters who represent malfunctioning immunity cells, cancerous cells, and infections. This character practices Mindful Framing, the art of relaxing her emotions by organized steps to visualize her sources of concern, the natural world around her, her role within nature, and harmonious consciousness of her body. She then follows the reader for the rest of the book as the author lays out the steps. The reader imagines themselves in scenes with the character, Therese, practicing these emotional control methods.
With creative ideas and clever use of storytelling, Oscar Segurado uses his medical background to explain not only the connection between the emotions and the body, but to offer one of the most readable, approachable presentations of the human immune system I’ve ever read. This book had great educational content for the typical person who might not be able to wade through medical terminology about the immune system and joins that information to a complete, revolutionary approach to controlling anxiety. Oscar offers Mindful Framing—and the NEO Chi lifestyle—as an alternative to typical meditation practices. Instead of focusing on outward ideas to feel detached, Mindful Framing: Transform Your Anxiety into Vital Energy focuses on the person’s emotions causing anxiety, stress, and physical problems like headaches. I read eagerly through the book and couldn’t wait to put some of the ideas into practice. It was an encouraging, inviting book and a stand-out read.
