City of the Invaders (Chronicles of Palladia #1)
Katia never devoted much thought to the politics of the people who run her world. But then, she never had to. Growing up in the only family of the minority EC to inhabit a poor small town, how the rest of Palladia—the Invaders—viewed the EC didn’t affect her much. But after a move to the big city puts her and her brother in the spotlight as participants in a popular theater production, the situation becomes tenser every day. And when their robotic dog goes missing and long-lost relatives reunite with them for no reason, Katia realizes maybe she’s gotten in way over her head.
The "Invader" culture is shown as slave-owning among the wealthy and slaves appear in a few scenes. Some light sci-fi action sequences. No sex or profanity.
City of the Invaders is the first book in the Chronicles of Palladia. It takes place in a socially divided future era. The EC minority group, the focus of the story, are important to this world because it is nonviolent and has an ancient heritage, but though its members are respected they aren’t particularly liked. This dynamic will affect them in time. Katia is a strong female lead with a feisty personality! Her relationship with her brother is a close camaraderie, but there are things about him she doesn’t see.
